Materials AREA identifies in the MATTERS project - Materials, Technologies, and Research for Sustainability – the priority to devote resources to.
This highly interdisciplinary project aims at finalizing the diverse skills of material area toward 5 broad strategic areas, in order to expand and strengthen the synergies with the other two Department areas as well as the interactions with other departments that are now regarded as central in the University development policies, for example by the establishment of new interdepartmental clusters and interuniversity centres for excellence.

All the five areas are regarded as strategic in the different national and European funding plans in the Seventh Framework Program. The required additional resources intend to strengthen the Area research capability in these areas and will be allocated accordingly.
