Biocatalysis Project

Enzymes as catalysts for application in the synthesis of natural products, drugs, specialty chemicals, flavours and aroma compounds has a 30 years long tradition in our Department. The recent establishment of the Protein Factory triggers great new potential in the production of proteins with new or improved properties for industrial and research applications. Current goals in biocatalysis are the use of enzymes

  • oxidation at saturated carbons
  • addition at activated C=C double bonds
  • multi-step enzyme catalyzed reactions
  • enzyme-based deracemization of multifunctional compounds
  • enzyme promiscuity
  • introduction of multiple enzymatic activities on one protein
  • immobilization of multiple enzymatic activities with cofactor regeneration in spacial proximity
